May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Child’s Alum of Destiny Michelle williams Opening up about her mental health journey after suffering from depression.
Speaking with good Morning America On Thursday (May 20), the 41-year-old singer talked about her new book checking in And how she lived with depression until she received an official diagnosis of depression in her 30s.
“I was helped when my reactions – just anger and irritability and bitterness – were out of character for me,” Williams said.
Wanting to help others navigate their own mental health battles, Williams hopes she can help “soothe shame and increase one’s courage”.
“I need help are the strongest words a person can say,” she says.
In 2018, Williams announced on her Instagram that she decided to help health care professionals after not being in a healthy frame of mind.
The “Say Yes” singer wrote on IG, “Over the years I have devoted myself to raising awareness about mental health and empowering people to recognize that it is time to seek help, support and guidance from those people Who love and care for your good. ” “I have recently heard the same advice that I have given to thousands of people around the world and seek help from a great team of health professionals.”
