Antim Review: With his first scene, director Mahesh Manjrekar sets the stage for a rebellious gangster story as Rahulya rushes to save his poor father Satya (Sachin Khedekar), who is being beaten up by an unscrupulous land mafia . The same man has also taken away his ancestral farming land.

What follows is Rahul’s quick transformation from an unemployed youth to a dreaded gangster, as Nanya Bhai (Upendra Limaye), one of Pune’s most influential gangsters, subdues him. But there is a problem. Inspector Rajveer Singh (Salman Khan), who knows how and when to use brains and persistence to rid the city of every malice – from rowdy rapists and power-hungry politicians to gun-wielding goons.
It’s a premise that’s designed to be a massive entertainer with plenty of room for massive action. But it has more dialogue than dishoom-dishoom and it often disrupts the pace of the story. Thankfully, there is a big plot twist in the first half itself that helps build and maintain the momentum for the all-important face-off in the second half.
Primarily set in a Marathi domain, Manjrekar deftly captures the flavor of rural and urban Maharashtra with Karan Rawat’s compelling cinematography, marked by wide-angle shots showing the city’s continuing growth. This has been further strengthened by casting several Marathi actors in important character roles. Nevertheless, the film suffers from too many characters and frequent conflicts that prolong the runtime. Also, there are about four songs that sound absolutely terrific and there is no dearth of melody in them.
Salman Khan is back in his cop avatar and this time as a fearless Sardar. It is easy for Salman to portray a policeman, as he plays in the gallery, tearing his shirt and thrashing the miscreants. Aayush Sharma gets the right look with his sculpted body and makes a sincere effort to match Bhai’s mojo. The actor has certainly come a long way from his debut, trying to live the pain and glory of Rahul with conviction. He succeeds to an extent, but the overall writing of the film could have been tighter, less melodramatic and didactic. His chemistry with debutante Mahima Makwana, who plays his love interest Manda, is quite bland, and often a nod to the pace of the film.
With intense action and drama (a little too much), “Antiem: The Final Truth” checks a few boxes for mass entertainment. It also throws light on the issue of land grabbing by mafia dons who successfully manage to break the law, as they often join hands with politicians. So, if you’re a fan of old-fashioned Bollywood movies that have a ton of everything, then Antiem: The Final Truth could be your kind of film.
According to a report in ETimes, Mahesh Manjrekar has discussed not one but two films with his actor-producer Salman Khan. The filmmaker told the publication, “Even before I took up Antim: The Final Truth, I had narrated a film to Salman, which was a comedy. It was unconventional and he laughed a lot during our storytelling session. But that film was postponed then. Granted when the last one fell on my lap.
Now, I have given another extraordinary script to Salman. It is a violent love story in which 90 percent of the characters are blind. I would love to do that film with him. If someone gets really ambitious and decides to support him, I’d love to make it up soon. ,
This is not the first time that Salman and the filmmaker have collaborated on a film. The two have previously worked together in several films like Wanted: Dead or Alive, Ready, Bodyguard, Dabangg 3 and Jai Ho. So their friendship deepens.
In fact, superstar Salman Khan even took Mahesh Manjrekar’s daughter Saiee Manjrekar in his wings and launched her through Dabangg 3.
Meanwhile, the superstar previously spoke about his character in Antim: The Final Truth. Talking to Pinkvilla, he said, ‘I could not play this character like ‘Dabangg’. Otherwise I would have kept doing ‘Dabangg’.
This is a completely different film. My character is very tied up, very Indian and rugged. He doesn’t whine or yell, he’s very focused on what he’s doing. He will take orders and be humiliated, but he will do what he needs to do at the right time.
Even if he had to sacrifice a person, he would do what is right. That’s what I liked about this character.”
