Academy Award-nominated film ‘Minari’, filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung’s semi-autobiographical drama, is now set to premiere in India on April 16. A family of Korean immigrants trying to make their American dream come true in the 1980s. It also stars Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Yoon Yuh-jung and Will Patton. The film, primarily in the Korean language, will be released in the country by PVR Pictures.
Film critic and film trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed this on his Twitter handle on Thursday. He tweeted: “#PVR releases two films in a single day… #PVR Pictures nominated #AcademyAward to #Minari & sci-fi thriller #Voyagers to *cinemas* in India on April 16, 2021 . the posters. . .”
The film is a semi-autobiographical look at Chung’s upbringing and the plot follows a family of South Korean immigrants trying to make it to rural America in the 1980s. “Minari” had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2020, winning both the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the US Dramatic Audience Award.
It also received 3 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and 10 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nominations. The film also received six Independent Spirit Award nominations.
The film recently garnered six Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Yoon), Best Supporting Actress (Youth), and Original Score for Emil Mosseri.
“Minari” has also won six BAFTA Award nominations, including a spot in the Best Film Non-English category.
