In a veiled attack on the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina said that those promising to bring back Article 370 are doing emotional politics.
He said Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated on August 5, 2019 and has now become a part of history.
His statement was followed by PDP chief and PAGD vice-chairman Mehbooba Mufti that peace cannot be restored in the region without undoing the “illegal” and “unconstitutional” act revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“No one can restore Article 370 and political parties making false promises to bring it back are playing emotional politics,” the BJP leader said in a statement after the party’s emergency meeting here.
Without naming Mehbooba or PAGD, Raina took a dig at regional parties for misleading people in the name of Article 370 and said his party would always oppose any move to reinstate it.
Clearly citing Mehbooba’s demand for talks with everyone, including Pakistan, Raina said India has always favored friendly relations with its neighbors which should not be considered as its weakness.
“Talks and guns cannot go together,” he said, adding that India shares very cordial relations with Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan and other countries.
“As far as Pakistan is concerned, it has waged a proxy war against India but will never succeed in its plans. Trust can be developed through dialogue but Pakistan has never shown its sincerity to have good relations with India.
This is evident from its policy of training, funding and pushing terrorists into Indian territory, he said.
“Until this neighbor stops supporting terrorism in any form, nothing can happen,” the BJP leader said.
