At least 12 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in a gas explosion in a residential community in central China on Sunday, official media said.
A large number of people were trapped in the explosion at around 6.30 am local time in Zhangwan district of Xi’an city of Hubei province.
12 people were killed in this explosion. Officials rescued about 150 people from the area, including 39 seriously injured, and rushed them to hospitals, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Images and video footage circulated on social media platform Weibo show rescue workers working through the rubble of flat houses.
The report said the exact number of casualties is still being verified as search and rescue continues.
